About the artist

Valerie Ortmayer is a resident of Bishop, California. She has lived in the Eastern Sierras since 1998. After growing up in Southern California she and her husband Ron moved to Baja, California for a period of two years. It was while living there that she developed an interest in watercolors.

Upon returning to the United States the couple decided to move closer to family and so settled in Bishop. Valerie has studied with local artists, taken courses at the local junior college, and traveled to Italy for an intensive watercolor course.

Her work has been displayed at the Altrusa Art Show in Bishop, the Inyo Council for the Arts and at the art exhibit at Northern Inyo Hospital. Her favorite style of painting includes use of negative space with vibrant color and a close-up view of her subjects.
